  • Studies of the World Health Organization show that 4 million children die per year during their first month of life. From these deaths, more than one million (27%) occur in India.
  • The implementation of whole KMC (medical and psychological components) help to diminish the infant (premature babies) mortality rate.
  • Due to, not only the necessity of saving infant´s lives but also to guarantee their high life quality and their adequate entire development, it is necessary to begin to develop training and research projects that help, not only to decrease childish mortality in India but also, to promote an entire development of the newborn premature.

The Following Challenge:

Natalia Varela and Pablo Muñoz two Colombian Psychologists from Kangaroo Mother Foundation have started an ambitious project with two major aims. First training a Professional team in each of the five Kangaroo Programs in charge of carrying out the follow-up and evaluation of premature babies’ psychomotor development in India and second conduncting research about the impact of the kangaroo mother Care technique in the quality of caregiving that the fathers provide to their premature babies.This project is going to take place between March 2009 and March 2010 and we need your support¡¡¡

 


The beneficiaries of this project:

  • Professional team belonging to each of the five Kangaroo Programs in India that are in charge of carrying out the follow-up and evaluation of the premature babies’ psychomotor development.
  • 10,000 premature Children (roughly) per year that belong to the five Kangaroo programs from the different regions in India.
